On Saturday, 18 May, at a meeting in the Government chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin discussed the price situation for socially important food products.
Last week, the average index of prices for socially important food products remained stable. This dynamics is maintained for the third week in a row. Thus, the increase in prices for socially important products from the beginning of the year to May 14 remains at the level of 0.3%.
During the week, the average price of cabbage across the country decreased by 3.6%, but there is a slight increase in prices for carrots, potatoes and onions. In Turkestan region, the first harvest of cabbage continues, from the field it is sold from 20 tenge per kg. Aizhan Bizhanova, First Deputy Minister of Trade and Integration, noted at the meeting that demand for fresh harvest from other regions is very low. At the same time, the weighted average price for this vegetable is 154 tenge per kg. The Ministry of Industry and Trade has asked the regions to work on purchasing fresh vegetables from Turkestan region.
The first shipments of imported young onions from Uzbekistan are already starting this weekend. The price range for the Uzbek vegetable is 62-71 tenge per kg. According to contracts, the first batches will go to WKO, Kostanai and Kyzylorda. In general, only 10 regions have so far submitted applications for delivery of the new imported crop.
